Sunday afternoons are always the worst time to visit a grocery store. And on this past Sunday afternoon there was a rush on U.S. groceries connected with a big football game. It’s called the Super Bowl.

I’d forgotten about the game before heading Sunday to the store. I don’t follow football.

There is only one event in NFL history that I would have liked to have attended in person— Prince’s concert at the halftime of the 2007 Super Bowl. Prince played "Purple Rain" in the pouring rain in Miami.

That said, I do watch the Super Bowl halftime shows later on YouTube. I enjoyed Rihanna’s performance. She sure has given us a lot of catchy songs over the years.

But in general, the Super Bowl does nothing for me but make the grocery stores less pleasant. On this pre-Super Bowl Sunday, it also played havoc with my dinner plans.

I wanted a nice bit of fatty pork for a stew recipe from the Republic of Georgia. It’s a great winter dish, made with lots of fenugreek and a good dash of turmeric.
